Here are a few of the frequently asked questions that I get asked to help you if you’re thinking of embarking on a leadership coaching journey.

What is Leadership Coaching?

Leadership coaching is a personalised and collaborative process designed to enhance leadership skills, foster self-awareness, and facilitate professional growth. I work with leaders to identify goals, overcome challenges, and optimise their potential.

Who can benefit from Leadership Coaching?

Leadership coaching is beneficial for leaders at all levels, from emerging leaders to seasoned executives. It is not limited to a specific industry and can be tailored to address the unique challenges of each individual. I predominately work with first-time founders and reluctant leaders who are looking to understand and embrace their unique leadership style.

How is Leadership Coaching different from Mentoring?

While mentoring involves a more experienced individual guiding a less experienced one, coaching is a collaborative process between equals. Coaching focuses on the coachee’s personal and professional development, helping them discover their own solutions and strategies. In a mentoring relationship, you are likely to expect someone to offer advice based on their own experiences unlike in a coaching relationship where you will be supported, by your coach, to develop your own solutions.

How long does a Coaching Engagement Last?

The duration of a coaching engagement varies based on individual needs and goals however the minimum initial package that I offer is a 6-session block of 1.5-hour sessions to ensure that we have a structured focus with clear review points to enable us to measure the impact of the coaching sessions. Following the initial 6-session block then leaders have the choice to select another block, a rolling agreement of ad-hoc sessions.

How do I know which Leadership Coach is right for me?

Before you embark on a Leadership Coaching journey it is important that you meet with a range of Coaches to understand their unique style and approach to Coaching. Most Coaches will offer a free Chemistry/Discovery call or meeting, and this is your opportunity to meet with them to confirm that you have a good rapport and that they are able to offer you the support that you feel you need. Before the call it might be useful to make a note of your questions so that you make the most of your time together.

What happens in a typical Coaching Session?

Coaching sessions are confidential one-on-one conversations between the coach and the leader. These sessions involve exploring goals, identifying challenges, and creating action plans. I use a various tools, assessments, and techniques to facilitate the process and to help you to uncover how your values, beliefs and mindset might impact your development.

We will begin the sessions by developing well-formed goals and these are the basis for our work together. These goals could be developing specific leadership skills, overcoming limiting beliefs, improving organisation or time management or connecting with your values system. Once we have these well-formed goals then we will use the sessions to explore these areas of focus through different lenses such as beliefs and mindsets to remove any barriers to success. The final session in the six-session block is a chance to celebrate the achievements made across the sessions, to review the progress made and start to visualise new areas of focus for any subsequent coaching blocks.

What qualifications should a Leadership Coach have?

Effective leadership coaches should have a combination of relevant education, coaching training, and practical experience. Look for coaches with certifications from reputable coaching organisations and a track record of success. I hold a Level 7 Executive Coaching qualification from the Institute of Leadership and Management and I am an accredited Senior Practitioner with the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC).

How does Coaching address specific Leadership challenges?

Leadership coaches help individuals address challenges such as communication issues, time management, conflict resolution, emotional intelligence and improving self-awareness. The coaching process is tailored to the leader’s unique situation and objectives.

Yes, leadership coaching can have positive effects on teams. As leaders develop their skills and self-awareness, they can create a more positive and productive work environment, influencing the entire team.

How can leaders measure the impact of Coaching?

Measuring the impact of coaching can be subjective, but leaders often notice improvements in areas such as decision-making, communication, and team dynamics. Coaches may use assessments and feedback to help quantify progress. In order to measure the impact of coaching I gather feedback during the sessions and also at the end of the initial 6-session block to help us both understand the positive changes that have been implemented as a result of the coaching relationship.

Leadership coaching is a powerful tool for personal and professional growth, offering leaders the support and guidance they need to excel in their roles. By understanding the fundamentals of coaching, leaders can make informed decisions about engaging in this transformative process and reap the numerous benefits it offers.
